The Pisharnath Mahadev Mandir is a Shiva temple located in the hill-station of Matheran in Maharashtra, India. This temple is the oldest in Matheran and the deity Piśarnāth is the grama devata (village deity). The specialty is that Lord Mahadev and his follower Nandi have come out of earth in the form of natural rock. The lingam here is "swayambhū" and appears in an extraordinary titled ‘L’ shape and is covered with sindoor. This ancient temple is located on the banks of a lake now known as "Charlotte". The surroundings of the temple are extremely beautiful and secluded. The place is at an altitude of about 2516 feet above sea level. This is one of those serene temples where one can experience peace and calmness. Located near Lord's point and Charlotte Lake in Matheran, a very well maintained and clean temple. Way to the temple is via shady forest and an enjoyable walk from Matheran Bungalow for about 20-30 minutes. You can also enjoy the solitude of the overlooking lake. The Echo Point and Chatrapati Shivaji Museum is also close-by. Very interesting and beautiful, a must visit place in Matheran!
